Drop on in!
Drop in…have you ever been laying on your mat or seated in meditation and heard this cue? Drop in. Socially dropping in unannounced can be an intrusion almost a rude faux pas, but to drop in on yourself is a beautiful yet elusive thing.
In the Practice we want you to drop in, to connect with that still and quiet place within. We all share this essence of self but we are not taught or encouraged to engage with it. To drop in on yourself is different than thinking; way different. The mind is an excellent thinker and solver, and can strategize like a highly skilled general headed into battle. Dropping in requires patience and practice and a great deal of curiosity.
First find stillness, when the body becomes still it allows the subconscious mind to open and the nervous system to slow down. Quiet is essential, soft atmospheric music, guided meditation and mantra can all facilitate this practice. The key being to find enough peace and stillness without distraction from the outside world in order to drop in. Then breathe; become a conscious observer of your natural breathing. Let your breath be the most fascinating thing you have focused on all day. Feel it and watch its pathway and rhythms in your body. The breath will bring the quiet and the stillness. It’s like magic.
How will you know when you get there? When you’ve dropped in? The body will have become nothing more than a vessel for the wonderment and beauty of your essence, your soul. You may feel both light and heavy at the same time. The Pranic energy or life-force may bring a buzzing and vibration. You will cease to feel anxious or attached to your on-going emotions. It will be as if you are authentically and finally with yourself home, safe and comfortable. You may hear, or see things in your subconscious landscape, you may drift. This sensation is entirely pleasant and oh so healing, and oh so neglected by our culture.
So the next time you get the urge to drop in on society or the temptation and illusionary world inside your phone; perhaps choose to drop in on yourself instead. You will be rewarded by receiving the most magical surprise guest you have ever welcomed in.
